I love the fact that I’m often asked to shoot food, still lives, and people for the same assignment. Shooting people requires a different skill set than shooting a still life and it’s fun, though often challenging, to switch gears during the course of a project. I always try to capture people in natural, un-posed situations, which often requires waiting for that unguarded, “decisive moment.” It’s critical to be prepared and have all the right elements in place, but equally important to be flexible. Sometimes the elements don’t cooperate and the plan has to change on the fly.
